So what the heck is 'forced proximity' in a romance trope? 'Forced' doesn't sound sexy or fun at all. Yet, it's one of the time-tested fun romance tropes that's still used to develop an awesome HEA.
Author Nicole Terry wrote an excellent post on why she loves this particular trope. Check out her explanation here.
Leap Year, staring Amy Adams and Mathew Goode. Like how in the heck does THIS...
...turn into this...
It Happened One Night with (sigh) Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert came out in 1938. Yep, 80 years ago. Yes, the dialogue is dated, but the trope obviously isn't.
Other movies I love with this particular trope include Shrek (2001) starring a green ogre and a donkey; The Bounty Hunter (2010) with Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston; Bringing Up Baby (1938 again) starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant; and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) with Jason Segel and Mila Kunis.
All of those movies are comedies, but dramas also take advantage of the forced proximity trope: Brokeback Mountain (2005); Titanic (1997); Silver Linings Playbook (2012). Sorry, no HEAs in the first two but passionate love spring up from that forced proximity.
Here are a few of the books with a Forced Proximity trope written by LoveRomanceReads authors. If you like the trope, you'll absolutely love these reads!!!
