I don’t do resolutions. Ever. The idea of one day, where you up and try to change everything, just doesn’t work for me. Also, I’m pretty content with my life as it is, so big changes aren’t something I’m trying for.
On the other hand, I enjoy making plans. I plan things like vacations well in advance. For our trip to see the total solar eclipse in 2017, I started some of the planning two years ahead of time. Sometimes planning the trip is half the fun. The hilarious thing is that when I write, I’m a pantser. Plotting out my novels doesn’t work for me. Creativity is an odd beast.
So, while I may not have resolutions for 2019, I do have plans. Here are some of them, both writing-related and personal, in approximate order:
Man, I’m busy. But at the same time, none of this seems impossible. I just have to sit down and do it. Depending on how fast I can finish Potions and Passions 2, I may try to release 3 books this year instead of 2. But that’s a stretch goal. We’ll see how it goes.
That’s part of why I prefer plans to resolutions. If something comes up, a plan can be adjusted. If things go well, new plans can be added. Plans as I envision them are always flexible. Like when the car breaks down on a road trip and you have to spend half a day sitting around getting it fixed. You’ll be late getting to your next location, but you take pictures of the kids playing at the tire repair place and then go out for ice cream. Because life is never static.
In the New Year I’m looking forward to continuing to push this author thing that I started in 2018. Because my head is full of stories, and I want to share them with you.
Whether you have resolutions, goals, or plans of your own, or even if you’re just going with the flow, I wish you a happy, healthy, and productive 2019. May we all achieve our dreams.
