Hi! To start off, please tell us your name, where you’re from, and what you write.
Hi. My name is Hywela Lyn (My Pen Name and my real first two names) and I write Science Fiction/Futuristic and Fantasy romance.
How did you become an author? Please share a bit of your journey with us.
I made up stories in my head from a small child. I started submitting to magazines in my early teens and had several short stories published during my working life, and wrote a Western romance novel which never saw the light of day. It was only when I retired that I published my first full length novel.
What are you working on now? Do you have a recent or upcoming release?
I’m a slow writer. My latest release is the third in the SF Romance series The Destiny Trilogy. This started out as a short story ‘Starquest’ which became a novel, followed by a sequel ‘Children Of the Mist’ and finally the third story ‘Beloved Enemy’. (The way my characters keep nagging at me though, there’s no guarantee I won’t have to write a fourth one!) I’m currently writing a ‘friendly ghost’ story romance for my publisher The Wild Rose Press. I’m hoping to get it submitted this year!
What/who do you like to read and do you have a favorite genre/author?
My favourite genre, of course, is romantic Science Fiction, although I will read any genre if the plot is intriguing and I like the characters. I love historical westerns and romantic suspense. One of my favourite SF authors is the late Anne McCaffrey whose ‘dragon’ books really inspired me to write.
Please share one piece of advice to aspiring authors - what do you wish someone would have told you? Or, what did someone tell you that you’d like to pass on to others?
Again, this was advice given to me by Anne McCaffrey, who kindly replied to a letter I wrote her, telling her my ambition to become a published author. She said ‘Write what you would like to read.’ That was a great piece of advice and I’ve always followed it.
Speed round! Write the first thing that comes to mind!
