Hi! To start off, please tell us your name, where you’re from, and what you write.
I'm Dee S. Knight and I live in the great Northwest of the U.S. I write erotic romance.
How did you become an author? Please share a bit of your journey with us.
If I ever gave any idea of becoming an author a moment's thought, it was a fleeting one. Truth is, I had some time before Jack (hubby) and I were going to pack up and move from one state to another and he said, "If you're at loose ends, why don't you write a book?" I thought, yeah, why don't I do that? I had a story in mind and started writing. A month and 90K words later, I sent the story off to an online publisher (then called Liquid Silver Books) and kind of forgot about it. I was shocked when the publisher wrote back and said if I could write a story with more sex, she would like to see it. I thought, "How hard can that be? Everyone knows about sex." So a month later I sent her a different 90K book. And that started things off. Later, I was to find out that writing was easy but editing wasn't as much fun, and I took pains to learn what I hadn't known before. It's been alternately fun and painful ever since. ;)
90k in one month??!! That's incredible!
What are you working on now? Do you have a recent or upcoming release?
I had a book come out in March from Black Velvet Seductions called Naval Maneuvers. It's a three part book about Navy personnel and the people they love. I had fun writing it. Next up is a trilogy about triplet men who struggle to find their way from cluelessness to true love. I think (I hope!) Black Velvet will be publishing them all maybe by the end of the year.
Who is a person you greatly admire and why?
I most admire my mom. I know there are lots of great people in the world but my mom epitomizes everything admirable is a person. She didn't have an easy life. But she worked hard, smiled and laughed often, exhibited the patience of a saint, forgave so many things said and done against her, and still found time to play Crazy Eights or Chutes and Ladders with me. She taught me about the joys of reading and that life can be an adventure that I can both conquer and enjoy. The good Lord smiled on me when he put my mom in my life!
I feel the same way about my mom. In fact, it's my mom's birthday on June 7th which is why I picked this date for our Grand Opening!
Please share one piece of advice to aspiring authors - what do you wish someone would have told you? Or, what did someone tell you that you’d like to pass on to others?
I guess the best advice I can offer is not much different than what other authors have: write, write, write. And when you don't feel as though you have anything else to say, write about that. Also, I feel like that character in Time Bandits who said, "Teach me about computers…" but I'd say, "Learn about social media…"
