Where was my best summer vacation ever? Camden, Maine to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. (Picture # 1) We’d been traveling to New England for several years, beginning with Vermont and branching out to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Then we discovered Maine.
Oh my goodness. I just fell in love with the rugged coastline and the majestic granite. Well, the lobster didn’t hurt either. (On one of trips to Bar Harbor, we realized we’d eaten lobster every single day!)
But back to Camden and our anniversary trip, which was in June rather than the fall when we normally made the New England trek. We stayed in a lovely B & B called Inn on Sunrise Point. Please check out the link. https://www.sunrisepoint.com/
You couldn’t ask for better vistas. (Picture # 2) The Inn has a charming breakfast room full of windows and light, with again amazing views. (Picture # 3) This is where I discovered Adirondack chairs. (I now have three in my own yard.)
Camden has an incredibly beautiful harbor. (Picture # 4) We took a cruise out on a schooner. In honor of our anniversary, the owners gave us a piece of their original boat. It was cold and windy out on the water in June. I loved it since friends and family at home were baking in 100-degree temps. Seeing the large homes and lighthouses from the water was a real kick. (Picture # 5)
We ate our anniversary dinner in town at a restaurant in an old home. They gave us a whole room to ourselves. Yummy food, great atmosphere, and we shared many wonderful memories. (Picture #6)
Mount Batty is a wonderful place to view the whole harbor from. We drove, but heartier souls climbed up to the top.
The second book in my Second Chances Series, ACT OF TRUST, is set in Maine, and the hero and heroine go on a road trip that takes them through Camden. (Picture #7)
While I prefer the rocky coasts of Maine, you can find some wonderful sand beaches in the southern part of the state just north of Portland. My dream is to spend the whole summer in Maine and write. May not ever happen, but in the meantime, we return whenever we can. Check out this amazing state.
