Hi! To start off, please tell us your name, where you’re from, and what you write.
Hi! I'm TJ Logan, I'm from Florida and I write Romantic Suspense, and I wish for world peace. (sorry, I felt like a pageant contestant for a second there)
Lol! I wish for world peace as well! How did you become an author? Please share a bit of your journey with us.
In 2012, I was sitting at my "real" job and, out of the blue, a bunch of voices in my head demanded to be heard. I started writing down character descriptions, back-stories, even names. Next thing I knew, I had the start of a series.
What are you working on now?
I'm currently working on book 4 in my O'Halleran Security Int'l. (OSI) series.
Do you have a recent or upcoming release?
I just released books 1 thru 3 of the OSI series, in August, September & October, respectively.
What is the most challenging part of writing romantic suspense?
I think one of the toughest things to do well in RS is to keep the suspense building throughout the entire 300+ pages. The relationship between the H/h is the most important element, it IS a romance after all, but you never want your readers to forget they're reading a suspense.
What kind of research do you do when you set out to write a new book?
If I'm writing about, let's say...a serial killer. I will read books written by experts in the field, or watch documentaries about serial killers. My preference is to actually speak to someone with experience that is relative to the story, the origin of the protagonist's evil, or the hero and/or heroine's careers, etc. I've been fortunate so far, in that, I have family members who, in real life, do the jobs of the heroes in books 1 and 2, and the heroine in book 3 of the OSI series.
Please share one piece of advice to aspiring authors - what do you wish someone would have told you?
The first thing I would suggest is to surround yourself with like-minded people, e.g. other writers. This was my husband's suggestion when the voices first popped into my brain. The energy and knowledge you will gain from this is priceless. Join an organization that supports and advocates for writers. For example, Romance Writers of America (RWA), is a national organization dedicated to the education, support and advocacy of writers of romance.
Any last words before we go into the speed round?
If you are a reader and you either enjoy or dislike a book, go ahead and leave a review letting the author know. Reviews are one of the best ways for authors to find out what is and isn't working in their writing. Not to mention, if you like it and tell folks, they are more likely to give the book a try.
Side note: if you didn't like the book, make sure your review includes constructive criticism, not cruel language.
City, suburb, or small-town? Small Town
Dark chocolate, light chocolate, or white chocolate? Dark chocolate with wine. Light chocolate with everything else. White chocolate never, 'cause it's nasty.
Alpha, beta, or both? Alpha
Vampire, werewolf, demon or angel? I enjoy a well-written vampire story, but Rebecca Zanetti writes some downright sexy demons, too.
Wine, whiskey or punch? Wine. Always. All the time. Whenever possible. Yes, please.
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween, or other? Christmas
Boxers, briefs, or commando? Boxer briefs. Commando makes me wince in fear that something might get pinched.
Cowboy boots, biker boots, or flip-flops? Flip flops. I live in Florida, after all. Though I do wear motorcycle boots whenever I ride mine. Oh, you mean for my hero…my heroes have worn all of these.
Leather, lace, or silk? Silk, I assume you're not asking what I like on my heroes.
Cake, cookies, or crumpets? Cookies - chocolate chip. Great. Now I want a cookie...and wine
Top, bottom, or against the wall? Yes, please
Biceps, abs, or buns? Biceps, abs & buns...in that order
Cats, dogs, or exotics? Cats, even if they are jerks
