Yay! Mariah Ankenman is here with us today! Mariah writes both contemporary and paranormal and does a damn fine job with both, I must say. I'm super excited she's dropped by. She has a new release out that I admit I've one-clicked! Please give Mariah some love.
Hi! To start off, please tell us your name, where you’re from, and what you write.
Hi! I’m Mariah Ankenman. I live in Colorado and I write Contemporary and Paranormal Romance.
How did you become an author? Please share a bit of your journey with us.
I was always making up stories as a kid. One day my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Cohu, told me people did that as their jobs and I was floored. I was a theater kid all throughout school and I even went to college for playwriting, but I never forgot my love of writing books. After an eye opening few years working in Hollywood I moved back to my beloved Colorado and started to actively pursue novel writing. After five years of submitting, dozens of rejections, I finally had my first novel published and it’s been a rollercoaster ever since.
What are you working on now? Do you have a recent or upcoming release?
The Best Friend Problem came out yesterday on August 12th, 2019! It’s a friends to lovers surprise baby rom com that will make you swoon and laugh out loud. Right now I’m working on the next book in the Mile High Happiness series, Lilly’s story.
What kind of research do you do when you set out to write a new book?
It depends on what type of book I’m writing, but I do a lot of research on any subject I don’t know especially if my character has a career I’m not familiar with.
Please tell us your favorite holiday and why.
Halloween. As a former theater kid I’ve always loved dressing up and pretending to be someone else. We’re pretty big into cosplay at our house. We have about 5 huge bins of costumes in our bedroom closet. Plus who doesn’t like free candy?
Please share one piece of advice to aspiring authors - what do you wish someone would have told you? Or, what did someone tell you that you’d like to pass on to others?
Don’t give up. You will get tons of rejections. It’s not personal. You just have to keep trying, keep working on your craft, and keep learning. It’s all about persistence and timing. You’ll get there.
City, suburb, or small-town?
Dark chocolate, light chocolate, or white chocolate?
Alpha, beta, or both?
Wine, whiskey or punch?
Hot dogs, hamburgers, or tacos?
Cowboy boots, biker boots, or flip-flops?
Cats, dogs, or exotics?
Any last words before we say goodbye?
Happy reading everyone!
