I'm really excited to introduce you to Maida. We finally met in person just a few days ago when I went to a book signing she was having in Alameda, California. Maida is as lovely in person as she is online! Check out the pics (but come right back). She also has a new release out, Singapore Fling. Can't wait to dive into my copy!!!!
Hi! To start off, please tell us your name, where you’re from, and what you write.
I'm Maida Malby from San Angelo, Texas (originally from the Philippines) and I write contemporary multicultural romance.
How did you become an author? Please share a bit of your journey with us.
I've written first chapters of three stories as far back as 2000. It wasn't until friends from my book club encouraged me to join NaNoWriMo in 2016 that I was able to finish one of them - Boracay Vows. I edited it and polished it and published it in November 2017.
What are you working on now? Do you have a recent or upcoming release?
I'll be writing Book 3 of the series (4th book) entitled Samui Heat during NaNoWriMo. I hope to publish it in time for Songkran in April 2020. My latest book comes out today, October 21 - Singapore Fling, Book 2 of Carpe Diem Chronicles.
What kind of research do you do when you set out to write a new book?
Mostly facts and details for accuracy. At this stage in my career I still write what I know, set my books in places I lived in, and assign jobs to my main characters which I have lots of knowledge and personal experience of.
Please share one piece of advice to aspiring authors - what do you wish someone would have told you?
Find your tribe. Join groups both online and in real life.
What is your favorite paranormal-related (horror or fantasy can be included!) books, author, or movie?

More About Maida
With a poet for a grandfather, a short-story writer/teacher for a mother, and a voracious reader for a father, Maida's new career as a writer is a natural fit. Spouse to a USAF Veteran and mother to a kid who loves Texas and Super Mario, Maida writes multicultural contemporary romances set all over the world. At some point in her life, Maida has lived and worked in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States so it's not surprising those are favorite locations for her novels.
