Hi! To start off, please tell us your name, where you’re from, and what you write.
Hi there! I’m Kimberley O’Malley. I live near Charlotte, NC but am from Pennsylvania originally. I write small town, contemporary romance and cozy mysteries.
How did you become an author? Please share a bit of your journey with us.
I never meant to be an author, although I have always been a voracious reader. I started writing a book, which went on to become Coming Home, in July of 2002 while we waited to adopt our now 17yo daughter from Russia. The waiting was killing me. So, one day I came home from work and started writing. And three weeks later, I had 110K done. And then I waited until 2017 to publish it. Go figure.
What are you working on now? Do you have a recent or upcoming release
My next release, Coming Back, is hitting the wild on October 30th. This is the very last book in my Windsor Falls CR series. I am working on very final edits right now. I am also writing my fourth Cozy Mystery.
What kind of research do you do when you set out to write a new book?
I'm lazy and don’t do a lot of research. Another reason I don’t write historical. Those people are dedicated! I research odd things as I go along. Like the average weight of a 35-week preemie. While writing Finding Kat, a chunk of which is set in St. Lucia, I did a lot of research via Google Images to get an idea of that island. I tried to talk my husband into a trip there…
What/who do you like to read and do you have a favorite genre/author?
I write what I read…contemporary romance. But I also really love romantic suspense. There are so many authors I love. I 1-click Linda Castillo, Laura Griffin, Emily Giffin.
Who is a person you greatly admire and why?
My Mom was my hero. She was a very strong, independent woman who never could see that about herself. She raised the three of us alone, wanting so much more for us than she had. She always told me I could do anything I wanted to do, be anything I wanted to be. I lost her to Alzheimer’s last summer. And that is the hardest thing I have ever done. Sadly, she never got to know that I became a published author.
Please tell us your favorite holiday and why.
I love Christmas because I’ve always felt people were a bit nicer at that time of the year!
Please share one piece of advice to aspiring authors - what do you wish someone would have told you?
Never give up. Wrote every day, even if it’s 100 words. Take all the advice you can get but filter it with your own instincts.
